Marshalls alumnus Baboucarr Gillen, a former star and first captain of the university’s Giant Killers basketball team, was elected 2nd Vice President of the Gambia Basketball Association.
His appointment represents a progression from student-athlete leadership into national sports governance. During his time at Marshalls, Gillen helped establish the university basketball team and led it through competitive wins against major university teams in Ghana.
Marshalls highlighted the combination of discipline, academic development, teamwork and leadership that shaped Gillen’s campus experience and now informs his work in Gambian basketball administration.
The university presented his story as an example of the wider Marshalls experience: developing students academically, socially and professionally so that they can take leadership into sport, business, governance and other fields across Africa.
