MARSHALLS AND GHANA TERTIARY EDUCATION COMMISSION (GTEC) PRESIDENTIAL CHARTER DIALOGUE
ADVANCING TOWARD AUTONOMY – MARSHALLS ENGAGES WITH GTEC ON PRESIDENTIAL CHARTER APPLICATION
We are thrilled to share a significant milestone in Marshalls University College’s journey towards achieving full autonomy through the prestigious Presidential Charter. On Friday, 20th September 2024, Marshalls University College had the honour of attending a pivotal meeting under the auspices of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), chaired by the highly esteemed Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai. This dialogue served as an essential step forward in our charter application process, reflecting our readiness and unwavering commitment to attaining full autonomy.
A MILESTONE IN OUR JOURNEY
Marshalls University College is one of only 17 private tertiary institutions in Ghana actively pursuing the Presidential Charter. The enactment of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), has underscored the necessity for all private tertiary institutions to acquire a charter to ensure sustainable academic autonomy. In line with this Act, Marshalls, having satisfied the financial requirements in October 2023, continues to work assiduously towards this objective, positioning itself at the forefront of private tertiary institutions in Ghana working with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to fully meet the Presidential Charter requirements.
During the meeting, Prof. Abdulai commended Marshalls and the other institutions for initiating and sustaining the process with diligence. He further encouraged institutions that have fulfilled their financial obligations to promptly submit the remaining documentation, which will allow GTEC to conclude the charter process expeditiously. This endorsement from the Director-General reaffirms our institution’s steadfast commitment to excellence, governance, and regulatory compliance.
COMMENDATIONS AND REGULATORY EXCELLENCE
Dr. Tetteh Nettey, Founder and President of Marshalls University College, expressed his profound appreciation to the leadership of GTEC, specifically highlighting the fairness and transparency of the Commission, particularly towards private institutions. Dr. Nettey praised the regulatory prowess of GTEC, recognising their crucial role in upholding the integrity of higher education in Ghana.
His sentiments were echoed by Prof. Abdulai, who graciously accepted those commendations as the meeting’s closing remarks, further solidifying the positive rapport between Marshalls and GTEC. The dialogue was also attended by other distinguished GTEC officials, including Dr. Newman, Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, and Mr. Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, Director of Accreditation, among others. From Marshalls, the delegation included Prof. Kofi Boakye, Dean of Academic Affairs and Executive Secretary of the Marshalls Doctoral Faculty (MDF), and Mr. Peter Raymond Nettey, Operations Manager, alongside Dr. Nettey.
