Eileen Elsie Mettle-Plange Fashion Educator | Designer | Sustainability Advocate | Head of Department, Marshalls Fashion School
Mrs. Eileen Elsie Mettle-Plange is an accomplished fashion educator, designer, and passionate sustainability advocate with over 15 years of experience shaping the future of fashion through education, innovation, and purpose-driven design. Her work spans the creative and academic spectrum, nurturing talent while championing ethical and eco-conscious fashion practices.
As the Head of the Fashion Department at Marshalls College of Fashion, Eileen leads with a clear vision: to cultivate a dynamic fashion ecosystem that harmonises creativity, innovation, and sustainability. She is dedicated to empowering the next generation of designers to not only master the art of fashion but also to become bold advocates for change—designers who understand their role in addressing environmental challenges and redefining the values of the global fashion industry.
Under her leadership, the department is being transformed into a hub of forward-thinking ideas, interdisciplinary collaboration, and responsible design. Eileen’s approach integrates hands-on learning with critical thinking, enabling students to explore textile innovation, sustainable production techniques, ethical sourcing, and circular fashion systems. She actively promotes a curriculum that balances heritage craftsmanship with modern technology and global market trends.
Beyond academia, Eileen is the founder of Eileen’s Complements, a brand dedicated to creating sustainable fashion accessories that celebrate creativity, African heritage, and environmental mindfulness. Through this platform, she models the values she teaches—designing with integrity, producing with intention, and leading with impact.
Eileen also brings a deeply personal dimension to her professional life. As a mother, she understands the importance of empathy, resilience, and authenticity—qualities that she instils in both her home and academic environments. She believes that nurturing creativity and responsibility in every space we occupy leads to meaningful, lasting impact.
Her mission is clear: to inspire a new wave of fashion professionals who will lead with purpose, innovate with conscience, and build a better future through fashion.
