NEWSLETTER – MARSHALLS FASHION SCHOOL (MFS) TOPS THE COUNTRY IN ADVANCED VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EXAMINATIONS.

Marshalls University College is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students in the recently concluded Advanced Fashion Examinations conducted by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET). Over 96% of our students successfully passed with Distinction, further solidifying our reputation for academic excellence and industry-focused training.

One such exceptional student, Afful Georgina, attained Distinction in both the Skills Test and Coursework Assessment, with a Credit in Theory. This performance underscores the impact of our practical, hands-on approach to learning and the commitment of our faculty to producing top-tier professionals.

A STRONG FOCUS ON VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Marshalls University College continues to expand its commitment to vocational and technical education, alongside our traditional academic programmes. Recognising the growing demand for practical, job-ready skills, we are integrating technical and professional training into our curriculum to prepare students for real-world challenges and global career opportunities.

From Advanced Fashion, Digital Design, and Healthcare to ICT, Hospitality, and Hospitality Management, we are equipping our students with market-driven skills that enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

THE GROWING IMPORTANCE OF VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS

In today’s fast-changing world, vocational and technical skills are essential drivers of economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development. These skills bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that graduates are not just knowledgeable but also competent and work-ready. With rising unemployment among degree holders, vocational education offers a direct path to employment, empowering individuals with skills in fields such as:

Fashion and Textile Design – equipping students for careers in garment production, fashion entrepreneurship, and creative design.

Hospitality and Tourism – training professionals in hotel management, culinary arts, and customer service.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) – preparing students for roles in software development, networking, and cybersecurity.

Engineering and Technical Trades – focusing on electrical engineering, welding, and building technology.

These fields fuel industrial growth, promote entrepreneurship, and create numerous employment opportunities across various sectors.

GOVERNMENT’S POLICY DIRECTION ON VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION

The Government of Ghana has placed a strong emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key pillar in its national development agenda. Policies such as:

The Free TVET Initiative – making technical education more accessible.

The Ghana Jobs and Skills Project – enhancing skill development for youth employment.

The TVET Voucher Project – providing funding for technical training to bridge the skills gap.

These initiatives highlight the government’s commitment to equipping the youth with hands-on skills, ensuring that education aligns with industry needs. Marshalls University College fully supports this direction by expanding its technical programmes to meet national and global workforce demands.
