The essence of the workshop was to address and consequently find innovative solutions to actual and potential risks identified within the Meridian-Marshalls Holdings the holding company for Meridian Pre-University and Marshalls University College. It was also to consolidate the strides, accomplishments and progress that Marshalls had made.

Mr. Mike Arthur, himself a risk expert reiterated the need for such a workshop for an ambitious institution like Marshalls. He pointed out that it was important to create a risk-conscious environment which would ultimately improve the risk management culture of Meridian-Marshalls Holdings. The staff were enlightened on the expectations of management, in risk analysis, identifying deficiencies and improving on institutional processes and departmental obligations.

The workshop identified, assessed and collated Meridian-Marshalls risks. He proceeded to encourage staff to observe good risk cultural practices and develop high professional standards. He remarked, “If we want to make any meaningful impact in the 21st Century, we must be world-class and first-class examples in the things we do.”

The staff were trained on the processes of identifying risks, determining threats and opportunities, scoring the likelihood and impact of risk and developing control measures to manage those risks. Mr. Mike Arthur then urged the staff to formulate succession planning processes individually and departmentally and devise healthy information management strategies to aid rapid business decision making and thereby increasing growth and efficiency of MMH.

Bringing the workshop to a close, Mr. Mike K. Arthur reminded participants that the risk profile of MMH would be updated annually to capture new risks and find innovative and creative ways in mitigating them.
