The founder and group president of Marshalls and Meridian Holding, Dr. Tetteh Nettey, was in Mexico at the invitation of the Mexican Embassy to participate in the first official Trade Mission of Ghanaian Businessmen to Mexico. The event was a weeklong programme put together by the Mexican Embassy in conjunction with the Ghana Investment Promotion Council [GIPC}.

Dr. Nettey, in his last high profile assignment as the executive president of Marshalls, participated in the mission to identify academic-based opportunities and establish partnerships with some Mexican institutions. It was the first of three visits to the Pacific Alliance which also includes Colombia and Peru. The Ghanaian delegation interacted with potential Mexican partners and the Mexican Chambers of Commerce and Industries to explore business opportunities in Mexico in sectors such as education, aviation services, agriculture, hospitality and tourism.

Dr. Nettey was in the company of H.E. Maria De Los Angeles Arriola, the ambassador of Mexico to Ghana for the event which also coincided with the opening of the week of Africa in Mexico held at the Central Library Biblioteca Vasconcelos. The event was opened by the Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Claudia Ruiz Massieu. Mr. Victor Manuel Rita da Fonseca, the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps,  also addressed the function.

H.E. Maria De Los Angeles Arriola offered a splendid reception to the ten-member delegation of the first Ghanaian Business Mission to Mexico, led by the executive director of the GIPC, Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh. The delegates, after visiting the Ancient Pyramids, met up with businessmen and representatives of selected prominent institutions in Mexico for a Business-to-Business meeting. Marshalls intends to forge international partnerships within the Pacific Alliance to share mutual academic rewards and acquire benefits for our students.

The highlight of the event was the founding of a partnership between Marshalls’ Dr. Nettey and the executive president of the Mexican Association of Tourism Developers [AMDETUR], LIC Carlos Trujillo Balmaseda. The partnership, prompted by Mrs Claudia Massieu, is set to reap mutual benefits for the Mexican Tourism Industry and the Marshalls School of Arts and Social Sciences [SASS]. The SASS is the faculty which offers Marshalls’ flagship Hospitality and Tourism programme.

It will be recalled that in April of this year, Meridian-Marshalls Holdings attended a Business soiree organized by the GIPC and the Mexican Embassy at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra. It was at that event that the institution received invitation from the Mexican embassy to participate in the First Trade Mission of Ghanaian Businessmen to Mexico.
