BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

 

Specialisation: Accounting Option

Programme Philosophy  This programme is designed to provide in-depth understanding of modern day accounting principles and applications with special emphasis on current accounting standards. It is designed for meeting the accounting needs of all organisations for local and international, for and non-profit entities, examinations or to pursue graduate studies.

 

Aims and Objectives

 

 The core objective of the course is to produce graduates who are abreast with industrial culture and able to respond to job requirements with minimal or no training. In achieving this, the course aims at:

  • Blending practical and theoretical perspective of accounting
  • Developing students to analyse and discuss accounting concepts and apply them in a work-related situation
  • Giving students the appropriate technical knowledge and skills to have a career at the lower and middle management levels.
  • Equipping students to undertake further studies at the professional and/or graduate levels.

 

Career Path

This will help in Marshalls’ quest to produce graduates who will be poised to confront the challenges of their time and beyond, whilst serving as positive influence in their society. It will also contribute to meeting the human resource needs of Ghana’s tourism and hospitality industry for the realization of an internationally competitive and sustainable tourism industry.

 

By the nature of the programme and the intended mode of delivery, it is expected that those who complete the programme be able to appreciate:

 

The nature and the critical role of accounting in providing useful and reliable information that is helpful in making decisions about deployment and use of financial  resources in an organisation; Apply generally accepted accounting principles, standards, concepts and methodologies in the preparation and reporting financial information to key stakeholders;

 

The use of accounting information, spreadsheets and other relevant software for managerial decision making with a planning and control focus; and Pursue further studies in accounting related programmes (MBA/MSc/MPhil Accounting) by way of career development.

 

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

 

Specialisation: Banking and Finance Option

This programme is designed to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge in Banking and Finance and economic principles to enable the individual student to develop self-assurance, being independent in the various aspects of Banking and Finance disciplines and relevant profession.

 

In particular the programme is designed to enable its students develop knowledge and understanding of the institutional framework surrounding Banking and Finance, nationally and internationally; understanding of the issues and problems facing those sectors; a strong grasp of theoretical models of Money, Banking and Finance at the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels; the ability to apply theoretical concepts in economics to the analysis of policy issues; and an appreciation of the appropriate methods to apply in the analysis of data.

 

The BSc in Banking and Finance programme seeks to develop informed, critically thinking citizens capable of functioning in a highly complex, interdependent, global society.  Primarily, the programme develops in its students the skills and abilities necessary for a successful career in Banking and Financial sectors of the economy.  Career options include positions in the banking and other financial institutions.

 

Students are also prepared for service, technical analysis, and management positions found in corporate, financial and public institutions.  They are also prepared for financial planning services, teaching, and various graduate school programmes as well as professional qualifications such as the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, Chartered Institute of Bankers, among others.

 

The product from this programme should be able to:

 

1. Critically think and analyze general finance and banking problems.

 

2. Demonstrate quantitative skills required for effective analysis of issues/problems.

 

3. Display knowledge of some leading industry software packages.

 

4. Use statistical techniques and written presentations to solve industry problems.

Programme Title: BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

 

 

Specialisation: Human Resource Management Option

 

This course is designed to train middle level manpower in Administrative and Human Resource Management concepts and practices for both private and public sector organisations. The ideology underlying this programme is to produce graduates to function and grow in a dynamic business world. To accomplish this mission, the University will combine effective teaching with scholarship and professional service. The institution strives for quality in all course offerings and undertakings to help prepare students for leadership and service in private, public, small, large, for profit and non-profit organizations. The programme prepares students for challenging careers in a variety of business and governmental organizations, and secondary education.

 

The human resource function and the accompanying legislature framework have grown in significant scope over the past decade.

 

Aims

 

This course aims to provide students with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of human resource management and labour relations concepts and practices. It will further survey the latest developments in theory and practice of human resource management, legislature changes introduced to the principles of organizational behaviour with a broad sense to global issues, elements of industrial psychology, conflict management, labour economics and individual interaction within organizational settings. The application of management tools to human resource management will be explained. Such knowledge is invaluable to any human resource practitioner in a globalizing economy.

Career options for students of the programme, among others, include; Human Resource Analyst, Human Resource Specialist, Human Resource Manager, Labour Expert and Lecturer.

The programme produces graduates with skills, competencies and ideas in modern day customer and social centred business activities. The product from this programme should be able to:

 

1.   Conduct, deliver and control competitive marketing programmes for any modern day organisation;

 

2.   Carry out appropriate marketing intelligence for any  modern day organisation;

 

3.   Develop, communicate and protect an organisation’s product brand;

 

4.   Design and implement both sales and relationship marketing strategies for any organisation;

 

5.   Develop and maintain programmes to delight organisations customers i.e. customer care and loyalty schemes;

 

6.   Understand the nature, scope and responsibilities of retailers, together with the required skills;

 

7.   Use marketing programmes to promote the well-being of the customer, the firm and society;

 

8.   Understand the effects of advertising on business and society, the control and evaluation of advertising       programmes   and the impact of  government regulations on advertising;

 

9.   Understand how socio-cultural issues affect firms’ marketing programmes; and
